James 1:16-18

Our Scripture Text for the day:

James 1:16           Don’t be deceived, my dear brothers. 17 Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows. 18 He chose to give us birth through the word of truth, that we might be a kind of firstfruits of all he created.

Some Thoughts to chew on:

Now that I am reading this better, I don’t know that the phrase “Don’t be deceived, my dear brothers.” doesn’t belong to the thought of yesterday’s reading. It really isn’t clear, and perhaps it is a statement that almost stand on its own! “Don’t be deceived!!!” This is a good lesson for us, a good encouragement to THINK HARD before we careen head long down a life path. The path of Jesus Christ is what we should adhere to faithfully!

Do not be deceived into thinking that any good thing that you are blessed with comes from anywhere except the Father! No, it is NOT because you worked hard that you have this or that. All credit goes to the Father who gave you the hands and the feet and the mind and the heart to accomplish even the smallest thing! This is ALWAYs true – it never changes!

And this principle also applies to our being Christians and having a faith! We often think that WE chose GOD, but in fact GOD chose US to be his Children! How does he give birth to us? Through His Word (YES it is important to read it and to share its message!) And to what end? That there would be many MORE Christians to hear and believe THROUGH us! We are the “first fruits” of many more spiritual harvests! Praise God for all his goodness!
